Glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are a combination of molecules widely used in osteoarthritis that are naturally occurring compounds found in cartilage. Two large cohort studies in the United States and the United Kingdom found several beneficial effects of non-OA treatment, in particular a reduction in long-term mortality. A significant relationship was found between regular intake of glucosamine with chondroitin and a 39% reduction in overall mortality and 65% in cardiovascular mortality.
